If you’re going to sell digital products, you need an email list

If you’re going to sell digital products, you need an email list.

Let me repeat. You need an email list.

As someone who helps small businesses with their websites and email marketing, here’s what I see (all too often):

✅ A client is ready to build their list, so we set up an email marketing platform
✅ We integrate signup forms on their website and add content to entice people to sign up

We hit the ground running!

But then…

❌ They don’t send any emails (because there isn’t anyone on the list)
❌ They don’t promote their list any other way ever again
❌ They continue to not send any emails (because there aren’t enough people on the list, they get busy or another excuse)
❌ They don’t nurture a group of people who want to get closer to their brand
❌ They abandon the idea altogether
❌ When they want to sell their digital products, they don’t have a group of fans to share with

There’s a better way.

👍 A client is ready to build their list, so we set up an email marketing platform
👍 We integrate signup forms on their website and add content to entice people to sign up
👍 They send emails from the very beginning, even when the only two people on the list are their mom and their best friend, they don’t know what they’re doing, they haven’t found their voice, they don’t know how the platform works and their emails aren’t that good
👍 They promote their list in various ways on an ongoing basis
👍 They continue to send emails regularly, finding what resonates with their audience, what their pain points are and what is most valuable to them which builds their confidence and email marketing skills
👍 They nurture a group of people who love their brand
👍 They learn more about email marketing and implement new ideas
👍 Their list grows
👍 When they want to sell their digital products, they have a warm group of fans to share with

What I’m sharing with you doesn’t have to take a ton of time, it just takes consistency. What can you commit to on an ongoing basis? One hour per week? Twice a month? Monthly?

Your list doesn’t have to be huge. You don’t need a million subscribers. You just want to build the list enough for it to work for you.
