Are you consistent and persistent in your message?
Hey Reader,
One of my favorite books is The 12 Week Year. If you’re not familiar, it’s a goal-setting framework that happens over 12 weeks instead of 12 months.
I’ve been following the 12 Week Year for a few actual years now, but recently created two digital products around it – quick templates and videos on how you can review, plan, track and score your 12 Week Year. (Here’s a blog post and the products if you’re curious!)
In support of this product, I decided to share my progress on Twitter more regularly.
Each Monday, I tweet how the previous week went and any thoughts about the upcoming week.
In the past, I thought:
- “I talk about this all the time”
- “I’m saying the same things over and over”
- “Everyone has heard this”
- “Everyone knows this stuff”
But I’ve come to understand that the first two points are a GOOD thing and the last two points just aren’t true.
If I want to become known for using and helping people with The 12 Week Year, I have to talk about it. If I want my message to be strong, I have to talk about the same things and not just everything under the sun.
There’s a great comic that relates, too – xkcd: Ten Thousand. For any topic, there are (on average) 10,000 people hearing about it for the first time each day.
Not everyone has heard of The 12 Week Year. Not everyone knows how it works. If someone first comes into my orbit on Friday and I talked about it on Thursday but don’t again, they’ll miss out.
I could definitely be sharing more of this content. Once a week on Twitter isn’t all that much. But it’s more than I was doing before (just quarterly when a year ended and a new one was starting). I consider it small steps in the right direction.
So, ask yourself – are you consistent and persistent in your message, especially one that supports a digital product?
Reply to this email and let me know. I’d love to chat!
Best,
Rene
