Launching your product is not the final destination
Hey Reader,
When I first broke my ankle in June, the doctor gave me a timeline. It seemed like surgery, a splint, a cast (or two), a boot, a brace and physical therapy would take around three months.
What I didn’t understand at the time was that physical therapy date was just the start. I would actually be in physical therapy for a while – in fact, it’s been almost three months of that alone and I’m still going. There’s still work to do.
I would never have realized this had I not gone through it, and it reminds me a lot of the digital product process.
For a small product, I recommend setting aside three months for creating, preparing and launching. But marketing that product ongoing takes a LOT longer. In fact, there’s never really an end.
That’s why I hate the term passive income.
If you don’t make a plan to keep marketing your product, no one will know about it and then (most likely) you won’t have many (if any) sales.
Ongoing marketing doesn’t need to take a ton of time out of your day, week or month. If you have a plan for ongoing marketing (much like a plan for physical therapy), you work through the items on the plan.
Stay tuned for my next solo episode (in two weeks) about ways you can continue to market your product beyond launch. Subscribe in your favorite podcast player or on YouTube.
Best,
